I love my WSM smokers but find them to be prone to temp swings due to the often windy conditions where I live. I was going to build myself a shroud or build myself a makeshift cook shack when I realized that since I often used the 14” smoker the most and rarely our 22” WSM that I could place the smaller smoker inside the larger one and seal everything up. As silly as it is (and maybe even an internet first) that nesting my WSM cookers worked extremely well at holding a rock solid temp. Up until today I have been cutting down the use of my WSMs because of the winds here but I think I may just get back into smoking meats because of this idea. I literally set it up and walked away and it’s held a rock solid 222F for over 10 hours now! I call this the “matryoshka method”. Looking forward to the results 🙂

This is great. That being said, I’d love it if my WSM got pregnant.

What were the vents for the mama wsm set to? And did you ever put the door on?

Why do you prefer 14” over the 22”?

I have an 18” WSM and always pictured getting an oil drum and putting it around the unit for winter. But never measured or took it seriously since I’m not smoking in the winter often enough.

If you don’t use the 22 I’d sell it and use the money to build a wind break for Lil’14.

Now all you need to do is make a bunch of YouTube videos about how the Matryoshka Method is *the way* to smoke meat and you can leverage that into a line of spice rubs and barbecue sauces.

p.s. **Do not** tell people how to pronounce “Matryoshka”. If interest in your brand ever wanes, you can stir up some fake controversy about the pronunciation and use that to rekindle interest.

It’s always a great cook when it isn’t windy. However it’s always windy when I cook

So… can you fit a 14 in an 18? Asking for myself.

  14. I have a square box to drop over the WSM on windy days

You should smoke a Turducken so you can continue with the layering
